Biography
Climax is an American band formed in 1970 in Los Angeles, California. The group initially consisted of lead singer Sonny Geraci, composer and guitarist Walter D. Nims, composer, singer, and keyboardist Nick D'Amico, and drummer Jon Jon Guttman. Climax descended from the 1960s hit band The Outsiders, with former members Geraci, Nims, and D'Amico joining new member Guttman to record and release one single under the Outsiders name before changing their name to Climax due to legal threats. Their breakthrough came in 1972 with the release of "Precious and Few", which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and Number 1 on Cashbox magazine's Top 100 singles chart, selling over one million copies and being certified gold by the RIAA. The band released their debut album Climax Featuring Sonny Geraci, in May 1972, which included "Precious and Few" and other notable tracks like "Life and Breath", which reached number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite their initial success, Climax struggled to maintain momentum and disbanded in 1976. The band is generally considered a one-hit wonder due to the lack of widespread success for any releases other than "Precious and Few".
