Biography
Whitelands is a British rock group formed in London in 2016, originally a solo project by Etienne QuarteyâPapafio (vocals and guitar). The band expanded to include Michael Adelaja (guitar), Vanessa Govinden (bass), and Jagun Meseorisa (drums). Their debut EP Old News was selfâreleased on 16 February 2018, followed by the single "Cheer" on 7 July 2018. The selfâtitled album Whitelands arrived on 7 July 2018, and the single "Fluoxetine" was issued on 28 December 2018. Their second fullâlength album NightâBound Eyes Are Blind to the Day was released on 23 February 2024 under Sonic Cathedral; it was named one of the best debut albums of the year by NME that month and placed number 64 on Rough Tradeâs top 100 albums of 2024. The band released their third album Sunlight Echoes on 30 January 2026.
