Whirlwind Heat was a three-piece indie rock, post-hardcore, and noise rock band from Grand Rapids, Michigan, formed in 1996 by synthesizer player and vocalist David James Swanson, bassist Steve Damstra, and drummer Brad Holland. The group's name originated from the cover art done by Raymond Pettibon for Sonic Youth's album Goo (1990). The trio's first show took place on March 17, 1997. In 1999, guitarist Jason Eberspeaker joined the band, and the group recorded several songs in Jack White's attic studio on June 20, 2000, leading to the release of the single "âGlaxefusionâ" on Italy Records. The band released its debut album, Do Rabbits Wonder?, on April 15, 2003, under Third Man Records, which was produced by Jack White. The group followed with the EP Flamingo Honey (2004) and the studio album Types of Wood, released on April 24, 2006. Notable singles released by the band include "âPurpleâ" (2003) and "âOrangeâ" (2003), while other releases include the EP Air Miami (2006). The band's final live performance took place on April 19, 2014, at Third Man Records in Nashville, Tennessee.
