Biography

Offering witty lyrics, strident guitars, irresistible choruses and more than a hint of geekiness, Wheatus were - and remain - the brainchild of Brendan B.Brown, who originally formed the band with his brother Pete, (drums), Philip Jiminez (keyboards, samples) and Rich Liegey (bass). They initially built a devoted fanbase, playing New York clubs before hitting it big in 2000 with the witty youth anthem Teenage Dirtbag; a hit all over the world which also featured in the movie Loser. The band followed it with a cover of an old Erasure hit A Little Respect, but a dispute with their record company badly affected their development and second album Hand Over Your Loved Ones was a relative flop; though it was reissued in 2005 in revised form with the title Suck Fony. The band rescued some ground playing the theme music for a Warner Bros cartoon show Jackie Chan Adventures, but a succession of departures from the band further hindered their progress. Recently, Brown introduced new members as Wheatus returned with two EPs Pop, Songs & Death Volumes 1 and 2, in 2009 and 2010.
