Western State Hurricanes was an American indie rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in October 1997. The group consisted of John Roderick on vocals and guitar, Stephanie Wicker on vocals and guitar, Bo Gilliland on bass, and Michael Shilling on drums. After meeting at a show, the members began recording songs with acoustic guitars, eventually expanding to include additional musicians. Their debut performance took place in May 1998 at Seattle's Breakroom.
Western State Hurricanes recorded a demo produced by Phil Ek, which they sold at concerts. Despite negotiations with Sub Pop Records, the band did not secure a deal and disbanded in April 1999 after playing their final concert at the Showbox in Seattle. In 2019, John Roderick revived the project, remastering original recordings from 1998. The resulting album, Through With Love, was released digitally and on colored vinyl in February 2020, featuring tracks such as "Unsalted Butter" and "Samaritan".
