Biography

Boulevard, formed in Calgary, Alberta, in 1983 by saxophonist and vocalist Mark Holden, emerged from the local studio scene that Mark Holden had cultivated with Thunder Road Studio. The group’s first commercial breakthrough came with the 1984 single "Rainy Day in London", which peaked at Number 45 on the German, Swiss, and Austrian charts, and was accompanied by a promotional video shot in Germany. In 1988 the band signed with MCA Records and released their debut album Blvd.; the album spawned singles such as "Never Give Up" and "Far From Over", the latter featured on a compilation from Ronny's Pop Show. The same year they issued the second album Into the Street, which included singles "Lead Me On" and "Crazy Life". Boulevard toured extensively, opening for Glass Tiger and Boston, and remained active until their disbandment in 1991. After a 23‑year hiatus, the band reunited in 2014, performing at Firefest in Nottingham, and recorded a live DVD, Live from Gastown, in 2015. In 2017 they released the reunion album IV Luminescence, preceded by the single "Life Is A Beautiful Thing", and continued to support charitable causes during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
