Biography

In her deadpan portrayal of fictional goth teen Wednesday Addams of Charles Addams' multimedia franchise The Addams Family, Jenna Marie Ortega (born on 27 September 2002 in Coachella Valley, California) was behind one of 2022's watercooler TV moments. In the hit Netflix coming-of-age horror comedy Wednesday, she is cast as the morbid protagonist alongside A-listers like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Christina Ricci and Gwendoline Christie. The show hit streaming records, becoming second-most watched English-language Netflix series within three weeks of its release. It received two Golden Globe nominations: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy with Jenna Ortega getting the Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy nod. Four out of eight of the show's episodes were directed by Tim Burton, who reunited with long-time musical collaborator Danny Elfman for the show's original theme, co-composed with Chris Bacon. The Wednesday soundtrack is a mix of pop hits—including "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps—and classical music with instrumental covers delivered by Jenna Ortega on the cello, specifically renditions of "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones, "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica, and "Physical" by Dua Lipa.
