Biography

American composer and conductor Marvin Hamlisch (1944-2012) is one of the most successful musicians in history, with a dozen awards including three Oscars and several Golden Globes, Emmy, Tony and Grammy Awards. Among the fifty or so film soundtracks he has composed are such highlights as The Way We Were (1973), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Sophie's Choice (1982) and A Chorus Line (1985). In 1991, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed his classic Anatomy of Peace, while other orchestras paid tribute to him by interpreting his film successes. After The Mirror Has Two Faces in 1996, Marvin Hamlisch put his career on hold. He passed away in the summer of 2012, three years after receiving his final World Sountrack Award for lifetime achievement. The soundtrack to the film Ma Vie avec Liberace(Behind the Candelabra) was released posthumously in 2013.
