Wayne Gibson, born Edward William Allen on December 15, 1942, in the United Kingdom, was a British singer known for his contributions to soul music. In the early 1960s, he began his career as the lead singer of Wayne Gibson & the Dynamic Sounds, initially performing under the name the Tornadoes. The band secured a recording deal with Decca Records in 1963. Their version of "Kelly" featuring session musician Jimmy Page on guitar reached Number 48 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1964. Gibson's solo career began in May 1966 with a version of "Under My Thumb" by The Rolling Stones, produced by Terry King. Although it did not initially chart, it gained popularity on the Northern soul club scene and was reissued in 1974, peaking at Number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. Gibson also released a cover of "For No One" by The Beatles in 1966. He left the professional entertainment business after 1966 but briefly returned to promote "Under My Thumb". Wayne Gibson passed away on April 1, 2004.
