Waltari, a Finnish crossover and metal band, was founded in 1986 in Helsinki by Kärtsy Hatakka (vocals/bass), Jariot Lehtinen (guitar/vocals), and Sale Suomalainen (drums). Their debut EP Waltari was released in 1988. In 1990, Janne Parviainen replaced Suomalainen on drums. Waltari's first album Monk-Punk was released in 1991. Their second album Torcha! followed in 1992, introducing dancefloor rhythms that became a signature of their sound. The band gained significant attention with the indie dance hit "Lights On" from Torcha!. Waltari continued to experiment with various musical genres, releasing albums like So Fine! (1994), Big Bang (1995), and Space Avenue (1997). The band's diverse sound led to numerous European tours, including appearances at Woodstock and Roskilde Festival. Waltari released You are Waltari in 2015, followed by Global Rock in 2020.
