Biography

Vonbrigði, which translated to "disappointment" in English, is a punk rock band from Reykjavík, Iceland. The group was formed in 1980 by brothers Árni Kristjánsson on guitar and Þórarinn Kristjánsson on drums, along with Gunnar E. Knudsen on bass. Shortly after their formation, Jóhann Vilhjálmsson joined as the vocalist. Vonbrigði released their debut self-titled EP Vonbrigði in 1982, followed by the album Kakófónía in 1983. The band gained notable exposure through their appearance in the documentary film Rock in Reykjavík (Rokk í Reykjavík) directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson, which also featured Björk's early band Tappi Tíkarrass. Vonbrigði disbanded in 1985 but reunited in 2004 with the addition of guitarist Hallur Ingólfsson. Their comeback album Eðli annara was released that same year, followed by Tapir in 2009 and Ó, Reykjavík in 2010.
