Biography
Vladislas Perlemuter, known professionally as Vlado Perlemuter, and born on May 26, 1904, in Kovno (now Kaunas, Lithuania), was a notable French pianist of Polish origin. He began his piano studies with Moritz Moskowski before enrolling at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied under Alfred Cortot. Perlemuter's career was interrupted by war, during which he took refuge in Switzerland. Post-war, he resumed his performances and became a professor at the Paris Conservatory in 1951. He became known for his interpretations of Ravel, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, Fauré, and Debussy. In 1993, he gave a farewell concert in Geneva after being named Grand Officer of the Legion d'Honneur two days prior. Perlemuter passed away on September 4, 2002, in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
