Biography

The German concert violinist Arabella Steinbacher was born in Munich into a musical family and encouraged to play the violin from an early age. Her mother had heard about the Suzuki method of teaching the violin - a system where children are encouraged to absorb and learn music from an early age - and with this in mind she enrolled her daughter into the Munich College of Music where she was tutored in violin by the famous Italian violinist Ana Chumachenco. Steinbacher proved to be an outstanding student and during the course of her musical education won a number of important prizes including the Joseph-Joachim-Violinwettbewerbes Hannover prize in 2000. This led to her being awarded a study grant from the German regional authority and she joined Anne-Sophie Mutter's Freundeskreis. Under Mutter's tutelage Steinbacher's talents blossomed and she made a highly acclaimed debut appearance with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 2004 under Sir Nevill Marriner. Her outstanding performance launched her international career and she is now in demand to appear with leading orchestras around the world. She has been a recipient of the ECHO Klassik Award on two occasions and has a successful recording career having released a number of successful albums on the Pentacone Classics label.
