Of Italian descent, Muraro began his musical journey with the saxophone before teaching himself piano and studying under Suzy Bossard at the Conservatoire de Lyon. At 17, he caught the attention of Yvonne Loriod, Messiaenâs wife, and later became her student at the Paris Conservatoire, earning first prizes in piano and chamber music. His career gained momentum after winning fourth prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1986 and receiving the Victoire de la Musique award for instrumental soloist.
