Vicki Sue Robinson, born Vicki Robinson on May 31, 1954, in Harlem, New York, was an American singer. She began her career at the age of six, performing with her mother at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. At sixteen, Robinson made her professional debut in the Broadway musical Hair, followed by roles in Soon and Jesus Christ Superstar. Her recording debut came as a background vocalist on Todd Rundgren's 1972 album Something/Anything?. In 1976, Robinson released her debut solo album Never Gonna Let You Go, which included the hit single "Turn the Beat Around". The song topped the disco charts in March 1976 and reached number 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in August, spending around six months overall. It also charted internationally, earning Robinson a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She toured extensively to promote the hit, performing on major TV shows and at venues across the United States. Robinson's subsequent albums included Vicki Sue Robinson (1976), Half & Half (1978), and Movin' On (1979). Notable songs from these albums include "Daylight" and "Hold Tight". In 1979, she contributed to the album Disco Spectacular. Robinson moved to Ariola Records in 1980. Her final album, House Of Joy, was released in 1997. Robinson passed away on April 27, 2000. In 2011, her four RCA albums were digitally remastered and reissued with bonus tracks and liner notes.
