Biography
Darren Floyd, known professionally as Venus Brown, was born in San Diego, California. He began his career in the late 1980s hosting a radio show on WKYS in Washington D.C., which led to an internship at Black Entertainment Television (BET). During this time, he wrote for the BET program Video Soul and met R&B artist Patti LaBelle. He contributed keyboard/synth programming on Labelle's single "Feels Like Another One". He was then signed to D'Angelo's music label, Cheeba Music/Virgin, and later released his debut album Tar Baby on Boulevard Connection Records in June 2001. Brown served as the musical director for Nikka Costa from 2000 to 2003 and for Mark Ronson. In 2002, he became the president and general manager of will.i.am music group, overseeing multi-platinum albums for The Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, and Macy Gray.
