Vanity 6, an American female vocal trio formed in 1981, was composed of Denise Matthews (stage name Vanity), Brenda Bennett, and Susan Moonsie. The group was created by musician Prince, who initially envisioned them as a sexy trio performing in lingerie. Their first single, "He's So Dull" (1982), failed to chart on the main US Hot 100 but gained minor success in Australia and the Netherlands. The second single, "Nasty Girl" (1982), reached number 7 on the U.S. R&B chart and topped the U.S. Dance chart. Their debut album, Vanity 6 (1982), was certified gold. The group opened for Prince's 1999 tour in 1982 and 1983 and provided backing vocals on some of his albums. In 1983, Vanity left the group due to personal issues with Prince, leading to her replacement by Apollonia and a name change to Apollonia 6. Vanity pursued a solo career before passing away from kidney disease in February 2016.
