U-zhaan is a Japanese tabla player known for blending traditional Indian percussion with contemporary music. Trained under legendary tabla masters Zakir Hussain and Anindo Chatterjee, U-zhaan has become one of Japanâs most prominent tabla artists. He has collaborated with a wide range of musicians including Ringo Sheena, Akiko Yano, Kururi, Taro Hakase, and Tetsuya Komuro. In 2014, he released his solo album Tabla Rock Mountain, featuring contributions from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cornelius, and Hanaregumi. U-zhaan is also known for his conceptual projects, such as Chilla: 40 Days Drumming at the 2019 Aichi Triennale, where he practiced tabla for 10 hours a day for 40 consecutive days as a live installation. In 2021, he teamed up with rappers Tamaki Roy and Chinza DOPENESS to release the collaborative album Tanoshimi. The following year, he collaborated with Shuta Hasunuma on the album Good News, further demonstrating his versatility across genres. In 2025, U-zhaan released the light-hearted album, Tabla Dhi, Tabla Dha, including the notable track, "Kan shite Pai shite Kanpai!â, merging his rhythmic expertise with a playful, genre-crossing approach.
