Biography

Unknown Instructors, an all-star improvisational rock outfit from the United States of America, was formed with a lineup that included Mike Watt and George Hurley from Minutemen and fIREHOSE; Joe Baiza and Jack Brewer from Saccharine Trust; and vocalist/saxophonist Dan McGuire. Their debut album, The Way Things Work, was released in September 2005 by Smog Veil Records. The band returned to the studio later that year with additional participants David Thomas of Pere Ubu and artist Raymond Pettibon for their second album, The Master's Voice, which was released in March 2007. Their third album, Funland, followed in 2009. In 2019, the band released their fourth album, Unwilling to Explain, featuring J Mascis on guitar, marking the first time an Unknown Instructors album was not improvised.
