Biography

U;Nee, born Lee Hye-ryeon (later legally Heo Yun) on May 3, 1981, in Goyang, South Korea, was a multifaceted entertainer known for her talents as a singer, rapper, dancer, model, and actress. She began her career in 1996 as an actress before debuting as a K-pop singer in 2003 with her first album U;Nee Code. The lead single “Go” gained popularity, featuring in rhythm games like Pump It Up. Despite her rising fame, U;Nee faced severe online scrutiny over her appearance and stage persona, which contrasted with her shy and reserved personality. Her second album Call Call Call (2005), marked a bold image shift with a sexier concept. However, the backlash intensified, and malicious comments regarding her plastic surgery and talent deeply affected her. U;Nee was known for her live vocals and complex choreography, earning a loyal fanbase, but continued criticism took a toll on her mental health. She openly discussed her struggles with public perception on variety shows, revealing her sensitivity and vulnerability. On January 21, 2007, U;Nee tragically died by suicide at age 25.
