Biography
Desi Trill is a label created in 2023 by producers Tyran "Ty-Ty" Smith and Shabz Naqvi to bring Asian musical sounds, and Indian hip-hop in particular, to a wider audience. Renowned for his work with artists such as Rihanna, Lionel Richie and Ne-Yo on the Def Jam and Roc Nation labels, Tyran Smith has now ventured into the film industry, producing the soundtracks for the films Annie (2014) and Home (2015). It was during the production of the animated film Blue Story (2019), that he met Shabz Naqvi, with whom he created Desi Trill. In 2024, a first EP entitled Desi Trill Presents...Brown Is Everywhere defined the label's concept, inviting performers from diverse backgrounds such as Mumzy Stranger, Subhi, Natania, DJ Lyan, Yung Sammy and Naisha. Following a second volume, the duo work on the soundtrack to the animated film The Smurfs Movie (2025), with the song "Higher Love", performed by DJ Khaled and Cardi B.
