Trickbaby, a London-based band from England, was formed by songwriter Saira Hussain and guitarist Steve Ager, later joined by percussionist Vikaash Sankadecha. The group first attracted attention with their debut single âIndie Yarnâ in 1996, which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 46 and became the first Hindi-language track to be playlisted on BBC Radio One. In 2008 the band released the full-length album Chor Bazaar on 12 May under their own Chachaman label, featuring guest appearances from Eugene Hutz, Sergey Ryabtzev, Yuri Lemeshev, and Marcella Detroit. The album included tracks such as âFighterâ, âCrisisâ, and âNine Parts (Parde Ke Peeche)â, the latter associated with a video featuring Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra. The groupâs music was incorporated into several Indian films, notably Bluffmaster (2006) and Pyare Mohan, and their track âSabse Bada Rupaiya/Bluffmasterâ gained popularity within the Indian diaspora. In 2006 Trickbaby signed with EMIâs Far East office in Hong Kong and toured India, including performances at MTVâs Style Awards. The band continued to release music and collaborate with international artists, maintaining a presence in both Western and South Asian music scenes.
