Tribal Tech, an American jazz fusion band, was formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1984 by guitarist Scott Henderson and bassist Gary Willis. The band's early albums, Spears (1985) and Nomad (1990), featured a large ensemble with diverse instrumentation and lengthy compositions. In 1991, keyboardist Scott Kinsey and drummer Kirk Covington joined, forming the classic quartet lineup that remained consistent through subsequent releases. This period saw the band touring extensively and evolving their sound to emphasize improvisation over composed structures. Notable albums from this era include Illicit (1992), Face First (1993), and Primal Tracks (1994). Tribal Tech disbanded in 2000 following the release of Rocket Science, with members pursuing individual projects. The band reunited briefly in 2012 to record X.
