Serenata Guayanesa, a Venezuelan folk quartet, was formed in 1971 in Ciudad BolÃvar by Hernán Gamboa, Iván Pérez Rossi, César Pérez Rossi, and Mauricio Castro RodrÃguez. The group's inception came after an informal performance at the governor's house, which led to their first album, Serenata Guayanesa, released independently in August 1971. Their breakthrough came with the release of Serenata Guayanesa Volumen 2 in 1973, featuring hits like "Calypso del Callao" and "Aguinaldo Criollo". The quartet signed with Palacio de la Música in 1972, releasing several albums under the Decca-London label. In 1980, they moved to Sonorodven and later to Sonográfica, consolidating their status as leading promoters of Venezuelan folk music. Notable releases include Cantemos con los niños, released in the early 1980s, which featured "La Pulga y el Piojo" and "Este Niño Don Simón". The group's extensive discography includes albums like 20 años de éxitos (1991) and Sentir de nuestra tierra (1995).
