Biography

Popular in Portugal and France, singer Tony Carreira (born António Manuel Mateus Antunes near Coimbra, December 30, 1963) continues the tradition of international crooners. After spending part of his childhood in France, he returned to Portugal and tried his hand at singing. Success came in 1995 with the album Ai Destino, and has continued to grow ever since. A charming singer, he regularly tops the Portuguese sales charts and sells out venues such as the Olympia and the Zénith in Paris during his tours of France. In 2010, the compilation Reste: Best of Tony Carreira offers a complete panorama of his greatest hits. Four years later, he released an album of duets, Nos Fiançailles - France/Portugal, with French artists such as Michel Sardou, Serge Lama, Gérard Lenorman, Didier Barbelivien, Vincent Niclo, Hélène Ségara and Natasha St-Pier. The same year sees the release of the original album Sempre, aimed at the Portuguese market. Tony Carreira then returned to his roots with covers of Mon Fado (2016). In 2017, Le Coeur des Femmes is another exercise in duets, this time Franco-Portuguese, with contributions from Daniel Guichard, Chico & the Gypsies, Lara Fabian Ricky Martin, Julie Zenatti and his son David Carreira.
