Biography

Tonico e Tinoco, the "Brazilian Heart Duo," were pioneers of música sertaneja whose career spanned six decades. Formed by brothers João Salvador Perez and José Perez, they achieved national stardom in 1946 with the landmark hit "Chico Mineiro." Their prolific recording career produced over 1,000 songs and numerous albums, including Som da terra (1994) and Ouro puro (2002). Renowned for their "caipira" authenticity, they sold millions of records and performed thousands of concerts across Brazil. Following their final joint performance in 1994, the duo disbanded after Tonico’s death. Tinoco maintained the duo's legacy by performing as a soloist until his passing in 2012.
