Biography

William Toby Martin, born on 5 August 1975 in Melbourne, Australia, is a singer-songwriter and musician. He formed his first band, The Morris Brothers, during his time at Narrabundah College in Canberra. In 1996, Martin founded the Sydney-based band Youth Group, which achieved notable success with their cover of "Forever Young" by Alphaville, reaching Number 1 on the Australian record charts. With Youth Group, Martin released several albums, including Urban & Eastern (2001), Skeleton Jar (2004), and Casino Twilight Dogs (2006). The band was nominated for four ARIA Music Awards in 2006. Martin's solo career began with the release of Love's Shadow in 2012, followed by Songs from Northam Avenue in 2017 and I Felt the Valley Lifting in 2021. He has toured extensively with Youth Group and as a solo artist, performing in Australia, the US, Canada, and the UK.
