Biography

Tjintu Desert Band is a Central Australian Indigenous band from Ikuntji, a community 230 kilometres west of Alice Springs. Formed in 2002, the group was previously known as Sunshine Reggae or Sunshine Reggae Band. The band changed its name to include the Luritja word for "sunshine" and performs in a mixture of Luritja and English. Specialising in desert reggae, the group toured with the Regional Arts WA Sand Tracks program in 2011 alongside Nabarlek. In 2015, they toured again with Rayella as Tjintu Band. Under the name Sunshine Reggae, the band released its debut album, Watjilarrinya Homesick, through the CAAMA label. The group followed this with the 2014 release Tjamuku Ngurra. The current lineup consists of Jeffrey Zimran, Joseph Zimran, Terry Marshall, Kieran Multa, and Aaron Sharpe. Past members include Gregory Marshall and Shane Eggley.
