Biography
Tiris, a musical group from Western Sahara, was formed in 2005 at the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria. The band's name honors a southern region of their homeland known for its poets and musicians, gaining international recognition with their debut performance at the Festival au Désert in Essakane, Mali, in January 2006. Their first album, Sandtracks, was released in 2007 under the British label Sandblast Arts, subsequently embarking on the Sandblast Tour across England and performing at notable venues and festivals including Musicport World Music Festival and BBC Radio London. In May 2009, Tiris performed at the Ollin Kan Festival in Mexico, followed by a tour in Denmark and Sweden that August.
