Biography

Timothy David Minchin, aka Tim Minchin, was born on October 7, 1975 in Northampton, England, and raised in Perth, Australia. He showed an interest in music from an early age, taking up the piano at the age of eight, before dropping out three years later. He went on to study English and drama before gaining a postgraduate diploma in contemporary music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He started out in the shadows, composing music for documentaries and plays, before embarking on a career in acting. His discography officially opened in 2001 with the album Sit, featuring Timmy the Dog. Over the next two decades, he released several live albums, including Darkside in 2005, So Rock in 2006, Ready for This? in 2009 and So Fucking Rock in 2008. In 2016, the track "Come Home (Cardinal Pell)" made a spectacular breakthrough in the Australian charts, reaching number 16. An established actor, having appeared in series such as Californication (10 episodes in 2013), in films such as Robin Hood in 2018, on stage in musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar or in "humorous cabaret shows" as he himself defines them, Tim Minchin finally released his first proper album, entitled Apart Together, in 2020. It immediately reached number three in the Australian charts, boosted in particular by the track "Carry You" (no. 42), written for the Upright series, to which he contributes as actor, co-writer and co-director.
