Thomas Brinkmann, born in 1959 in Mönchengladbach, Germany, is a German musician known for his work in techno music. Influenced by bands like Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, Brinkmann learned drumming from Jaki Liebezeit of Can and began experimenting with electronic music instruments. His breakthrough came in 1997 with "Studio 1 - Variationen" (1997) and "Studio 1 - Variationen 2" (1997), modifications of Wolfgang Voigt's Studio-1 series using a dual-tonarm player. These works gained attention, leading to collaborations with Richie Hawtin on Concept 1 - 96:VR. Brinkmann released several albums under various pseudonyms, including Ester Brinkmann and Soul Center, combining minimal techno with funk and soul elements. He founded the label Max Ernst in 2000.
