Biography

Third World War was an English blues rock, hard rock, and proto-punk band formed in 1970 by manager John Fenton, along with songwriters Terry Stamp and Jim Avery. Their debut album, Third World War, released in 1971 on Fly Records, featured far-left political themes. In 1971, Third World War released the single "Ascension Day" / "Teddy Teeth Goes Sailing". That year, the Fenton, Stamp, and Avery added John Hawken on piano, John Knightsbridge on guitar, and Paul Olsen on drums to build a lineup to perform live, after which they toured Finland and played in festivals across Europe. Their second album, Third World War II, was released in 1973 on Track Records after disagreements with Fly Records over the inclusion of the song "Coshing Old Lady Blues". Financial issues led to the band's dissolution shortly after recording their second album.
