Biography

The Stupids are an English hardcore punk band from Ipswich that formed in 1984. Founded by Tom Withers, the group also included members such as Wolfie Retard, Marty Tuff, and Ed Shred. They released their first EP, Violent Nun (1985) followed by their debut studio album, Peruvian Vacation (1985). During the 1980s, they recorded three sessions for the BBC Radio 1 show hosted by John Peel. They toured extensively across the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Europe, and Japan. The Stupids were featured on the front page of the NME in 1987 in an edition focused on the skate punk scene in the United Kingdom. After they disbanded in 1989, Withers established a career in drum and bass under the stage name Klute. Other members continued with projects including Perfect Daze and Sink. Withers reformed them in 2008 with a new lineup. They released their first studio album in two decades, The Kids Don't Like It (2009), and later toured Japan following the release of the EP Japanese Vacation (2011).
