The Steel Wheels, an American band from Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, formed in 2005 when former Eastern Mennonite University students Trent Wagler, Eric Brubaker, Jay Lapp, and Brian Dickel began performing together. Initially a traditional string band featuring original folk material by Wagler, The Steel Wheels expanded their sound to include bluegrass, gospel, blues, pop, country, and rock elements. Their debut album Journal of a Barefoot Soldier was released in 2005. Notable releases include No More Rain (2013) and Leave Some Things Behind (2015). The band's lineup evolved with Kevin Joaquin Garcia joining on drums, hand percussion, and keyboards in 2017, and Jeremy Darrow later replacing bassist Brian Dickel. Since 2012, The Steel Wheels have hosted the Red Wing Roots Music Festival at Natural Chimneys Park and Campground in Mt. Solon, Virginia. Their most recent full-length release is Sideways (2024).
