Biography

The Sonora Pine was an American indie rock band formed in 1995 by Tara Jane O'Neil, following the breakup of her previous group Rodan. Originally based in Louisville, Kentucky, O'Neil moved to New York City and began collaborating with guitarist Sean Meadows, formerly of Lungfish, and violinist Samara Lubelski for local performances. The band returned to Louisville and added drummer Kevin Coultas, a former member of Rodan, for the recording of their debut album The Sonora Pine, released by Quarterstick Records in 1996. Pianist Rachel Grimes contributed to this album. In 1997, Meadows left the group, and The Sonora Pine continued as a trio for their second album, II (1997). The band disbanded shortly after its release on Quarterstick Records.
