The Samples is an American rock band formed in Boulder, Colorado, in 1987. They consisted of founding members Sean Kelly, Charles Hambleton, Andy Sheldon, Jeep MacNichol, and Al Laughlin. Their first show was in 1987 at Tulagi's. They independently released the debut album The Samples (1989) after recording an unreleased demo album in 1987 and embarking on their first national tour in 1988. They signed with Arista Records but terminated their contract in 1991 due to creative differences. Following Hambleton's departure, they released the EP Underwater People (1991) and joined W.A.R.? - What Are Records?, releasing No Room (1992). This album featured well-known songs like "When It's Raining" and "Did Ya Ever Look So Nice". In 1993, they released The Last Drag, marking a shift to a more guitar-driven sound. They later released albums including Autopilot (1994), Outpost (1996), Return to Earth (2001), America (2014), and Indian Summer (2019).
