Biography

Australia’s alt-rock five-piece The Rubens released their debut self-titled album in 2012 and that same year scored an Album of the Year nomination at Triple J’s J Awards. An exercise in bluesy garage-rock, The Rubens peaked at Number 3 on the ARIA Charts and in 2013 helped secure the band another duo of award nominations; ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist – Release and ARIA Award for Best Rock Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2013. Hailing from Menangle in New South Wales and made up of three brothers Zaac, Sam and Elliott Margin, as well as friends Scott Baldwin and William Zeglis, The Rubens continued their winning streak with second album The Hoop. The 2015 LP’s hit title track "Hoops" made it to Number 25 on the ARIA Singles Chart that year and was also crowned Number in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2015. In 2018, The Rubens scored an ARIA Top 5 hat-trick with third album Lo La Ru, which featured popular double-platinum single "Never Ever" featuring Sarah Aarons. A fourth album, 0202, is on the horizon for February 2021, and the band has already released a string of singles in anticipation, including lead single "Live In Life". The track, which is aligned with a smoother, pop-R&B sound and marks a new sonic direction for The Rubens, was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards.
