Biography
The Poni-Tails were an American musical trio formed in Lyndhurst, Ohio in 1956. The group consisted of Toni Cistone, Karen Topinka, and Patti McCabe, who started singing together at Brush High School. Their first single, "Your Wild Heart" b/w "Que la Bozena", was released on Point Records in 1956. Following the departure of Karin Topinka, LaVerne Novak joined the group. They signed to ABC-Paramount and released their breakthrough hit "Born Too Late" in 1958, which reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 11 on the U.S. R&B singles chart. The song was originally the B-side of their single "Come On Joey Dance With Me"; however, it caught the attention of radio DJs and became a major hit. Subsequent releases such as "Seven Minutes In Heaven" (1958) and "I'll Be Seeing You" (1959) did not achieve the same level of success. The group disbanded in 1960 after releasing their last single, "Who, When And Why". Patti McCabe passed away on January 17, 1989. The Poni-Tails reunited for a performance at the Moon Dog Coronation Ball festival in Cleveland in 1997.
