Biography

The Petersens, a country-bluegrass band from Missouri, were formed in 2005 by siblings Katie, Ellen, Matt, and Julianne Petersen, along with their parents Karen and Jon. Their musical journey began at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in 2003, leading to their first performance as a band in 2005. The Petersens gained recognition through local festivals and won the CAM Gospel Sing-Off-Wettbewerb in 2010. Ellen Petersen's appearance on American Idol in 2015 brought international attention to the band. They released their debut album, Finally Going Home, in 2014, followed by Shenandoah (2017), Homesick for a Country (2019), and Christmas with the Petersens (2020). Notable singles include "High Sierra" (2019) and "Falling for You" (2021). The band has toured extensively in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Finland, and the United Kingdom. In 2022, The Petersens released My Ozark Mountain Home, followed by We Don’t Need Anything This Year (2023) and the EP The Greenest Grass (2024), which peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums chart.
