Biography
The Music Tapes is an American experimental pop music and performance art project created by Julian Koster. In 1989, Koster formed Chocolate U.S.A., an indie pop band that included Bill Doss and Eric Harris. After disbanding in 1994, Koster refocused on The Music Tapes, releasing their debut album, First Imaginary Symphony For Nomad, in 1999. In 2008, The Music Tapes released Music Tapes For Clouds And Tornadoes via Merge Records, featuring songs like "Majesty" and "The Minister of Longitude". The band performed at Athens Popfest 2008 and the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour. In 2012, they released Mary's Voice, which was preceded by the EP Purim's Shadows (The Dark Tours the World).
