Biography

Swedish jazz pianist Daniel Karlsson was born on August 31, 1973 in Kristinehamn, Sweden. At the age of four, he began playing piano. He began studying music at Skurups Folk High School and once he graduated, began more studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Stockholm. He released Pan-Pan, his first album as a leader, in 2005. Forming the Daniel Karlsson Trio with Christian Spering (double bass) and drummer Fredrik Rundqvist (drums), they released their debut album, Das Taxibåt, in 2013. The album introduced a unique musical act that achieved critical success throughout Sweden and Europe. Their sophomore album, Fusion for Fish (2014), was even more successful and earning them Swedish Radio’s Jazz Group of the Year Award. Their third album, At the Feel Free Falafel, was released in 2016, earning them international attention. The trio’s fourth album, Ding Dong (2017), was nominated for a Swedish Grammy Award. They followed that album with 2018’s No. 5 and 2019’s Fuse Number Eleven.
