Biography

The Mitchell Brothers were a Ghanaian-British rap duo formed in London, England, by cousins Owura “Tony” Nyanin and Kofi “Teddy” Hanson, who were born in 2004 and began rapping as teenagers in their respective neighborhoods of Manor Park and Stockwell. Their breakthrough came in March 2005 with the single "Routine Check", which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 42, followed by the single "Alone With The TV" in February 2006 and the single "Excuse My Brother" in July 2005; these early releases established their presence in the alternative hip‑hop scene. The duo signed with Mike Skinner’s Beats imprint and released their debut album A Breath Of Fresh Attire on 29 August 2005, reaching number 56 on the UK Albums Chart, and later Dressed For the Occasion on 19 November 2007, preceded by singles "Solemate" and "Michael Jackson" (produced by Calvin Harris); the latter peaked at number 65. Their work earned a BPI silver certification for the first album and featured collaborations with Skinner, who also performed with them on his single "Fit But You Know It." After the 2007 album, Tony Nyanin pursued a solo career as Mr Mitchell, releasing "On the Rooftop" in 2012, while the duo’s activity declined, marking the end of their collaborative output.
