Biography

The McKameys, a Southern gospel group from Clinton, Tennessee, formed in 1954 as a trio of sisters: Dora, Peg, and Carol McKamey. The sisters began performing together at church and were discovered by out-of-town evangelists, leading to their first performances outside Tennessee. In 1957, Ruben Bean joined the group as a guitarist after meeting them during a performance at his church. The McKameys released their debut album The Family Prayer in 1968. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, they achieved significant milestones, including "Who Put the Tears (In the Eyes of the Lamb?)", which reached number 1 on the charts in 1984. Their final concert took place on November 23, 2019, in Knoxville, Tennessee. On December 26, 2023, it was announced that Peg McKamey Bean had passed away.
