The Macc Lads, an English punk rock group formed in 1981 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, began with founding members Muttley McLad, The Beater, and Stez Styx. Their early career started with the debut album Beer & Sex & Chips n Gravy in 1985, followed by the album Eh Up! in 1983, establishing a reputation for irreverent, politically incorrect lyrics about drinking, sex, and confrontation. Over the next decade the band issued a steady stream of albums-Bitter, Fit Crack (1987), Live At Leeds (The Who?) (1988), From Beer To Eternity (1989), The Beer Necessities (1990), and Twenty Golden Crates (1991)-alongside singles such as "Barrel's Round" (1987) and "Rockweilers" (1995). Despite frequent bans from venues across the United Kingdom and the United States, they maintained a dedicated touring presence, playing over 500 gigs by 1995 and culminating in a reunion interview in 1999. The group disbanded in 1997 but reformed in 2018, releasing new material including the single "Mary, Queen of Pox" / "Middle Finger" in 2019 and a series of COVIDâ19 themed tracks in 2020. Their legacy includes a cult following, a 2008 compilation reissue of early works, and continued activity into the 2020s, with a planned but ultimately cancelled Canadian tour in 2025.
