Biography

The Luyas is a Canadian indie rock ensemble formed in 2006 in Montreal. The group included Jessie Stein, Pietro Amato, Stefan Schneider, Mathieu Charbonneau, Mark Wheaton, and Sarah Neufeld. The band performed its first live concert in December 2006 and released the studio recording Faker Death in 2007. After signing with Dead Oceans in 2011, the ensemble released the album Too Beautiful to Work, which featured arrangements by Owen Pallett. The group appeared at festivals such as Pop Montreal and M for Montreal. Its third studio recording, Animator (2012), was longlisted for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. Schneider left the band in 2012 but returned after the release of Animator. The group released the EP Says You in 2016 and the studio recording Human Voicing in 2017. In 2023, the ensemble released a cover of the recording “I Can't Forget”.
