The Last Kinection, an Australian Indigenous hip-hop trio from Newcastle, New South Wales, was formed in 2006 by Joel Wenitong, DJ Jay Tee, and Naomi Wenitong. The band initially gained attention with their reworking of Peter Allen's "I Still Call Australia Home". In 2008, they released their debut album Nutches under BlackChili Productions. They were involved in a serious car accident in September 2008 that left Naomi Wenitong and DJ Jay Tee injured. The Last Kinection supported Public Enemy on tour in 2009 and embarked on a national tour beginning in July of the same year. They signed with independent Sydney record label Elefant Traks in June 2010. Their second album, Next of Kin, was released in 2011. They won multiple Deadly Awards from 2009 to 2012, including Best Band and Best Single in 2011.
