Biography
The Keil Isles were a New Zealand-based rock and roll group formed in 1956 by the Keil BrothersâOlaf, Herman, Rudolf, Klausâand their cousin Freddie Keil. Olaf Keil, born in Apia, Western Samoa, in 1934, was a key member. Their version of "The Twist" sold more copies in New Zealand than the Chubby Checker version did. They appeared in the 1966 musical comedy film Don't Let It Get You. By 1967, the band underwent significant personnel changes, and there were no members of the Keil family left in the band. Their impact on New Zealand's music scene was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at The Aotearoa Music Awards in 2012.
