Biography
The Innocents is an Australian power pop band formed in Hobart, Tasmania in 1975. The group was founded by singer-songwriters David Minchin, Charles Touber, Greg Cracknell, and drummer Brent âBeepâ Jeffrey, who originally performed under the name Beathoven. Their debut single âDo You Remember the Time / Darlin'â generated a local fan base and led to school dance tours and lunchtime concerts across the East coast of Australia. Under the name Beathoven, they also released the single âShy Girl / Does It Matter as Much to Youâ on EMI. In 1980, they relocated to Sydney, signed with Trafalgar Productions and RCA, and released the single âSooner or Laterâ (1980), which reached number 58 on the national charts after a performance on the television show Countdown. The follow-up single âCome Tonightâ (1981) was issued but received limited support. In 1984, Raven Records released the album Here We Come, which gathered their earlier Beathoven recordings and unreleased RCA material. The band's later career saw a resurgence in the United States in 2000, leading to performances at the Troubadour and the International Pop Overthrow festival. They subsequently released the compilation album No Hit Wonders from Down Under (2002), followed by the studio albums Pop Factory (2006)âaccompanied by a European tour that included a session at Abbey Road Studiosâand Teardrop Kiss (2018).
