Biography

The High Fidelity was formed in 1995 in the United Kingdom by Sean Dickson, formerly of the Soup Dragons, who served as lead vocalist and guitarist; the group was assembled after a request from High Times magazine for a cannabis‑themed cover for the compilation Hempilation: Freedom Is NORML. Their first single, "Addicted to a T.V.", appeared in 1997, followed by the 1998 single "Come Again" and the single "Luv Dup", which entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 70 that July. In 1999, the band released the album Demonstration, recorded largely in Dickson’s bedroom and later expanded with orchestral arrangements recorded in India, and the single "ITHANKU"; the LP showcased experimental dance‑pop. In 2001 they issued The Omnichord Album, featuring the vintage synthesiser the group had introduced on BBC Radio 1’s John Peel sessions, and co‑written "Pig Might Fly" with Peel.
