Biography

The Glitter Band, an English glam rock band from the United Kingdom, formed in 1973. Initially serving as Gary Glitter's backing band, they were known as the Glittermen during his early hit singles. Their first single as a separate entity was "Angel Face", released in March 1974, which reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart. The band's success continued with hits such as "The Tears I Cried" (1975) and "Goodbye My Love" (1975). They released four albums between 1973 and 1976, including Hey (1974), Rock 'n' Roll Dudes (1975) and Paris Match (1977). However, their popularity waned with the decline of glam rock and the rise of punk and band changed their name to the G Band and later Air Traffic Control but struggled to find further success. In 1980, they reformed with new members. Throughout the 1980s and beyond, the Glitter Band continued to release sporadic albums and perform live, maintaining their profile through Greatest Hits compilations. Notable members Gerry Shephard and Pete Phipps reunited in 1987 for tours across the UK and Europe until 2001. The remaining members continued to perform after Shephard's death in May 2003.
